Currently on the MLB team list are 30 major league baseball teams. MLB teams play 162 games a season. They are the highest-level professional baseball teams in North America. The average salary in 2006 for a major league team player was $2,699,292. Therefore the payroll for Major league baseball teams in 2007 climbed up to more than 189 Million Dollars. But as a matter of fact MLB team payrolls are not directly connected to their performance and therefore the highest spending team is not necessary the best team in the league. To the AL Central belong the Chicago White Sox, Cleveland Indians, Detroit Tigers, Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twins. To the AL West belong the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Oakland Athletics, Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers.
